The University of Oregon announced it will begin offering abortion medications at its campus health center starting in the fall of 2026.

Students will be able to schedule appointments with University Health Services to receive mifepristone and misoprostol, medications commonly used to end pregnancies within the first 11 weeks.

University spokesperson Angela Seydel said the decision follows strong interest from students seeking expanded reproductive health services.

“UHS is committed to ensuring students have access to timely, comprehensive reproductive care,” Seydel said in a statement. “Expanding our services to include medication abortion is the next necessary step in that commitment.”

The move comes after a campaign led by several student organizations, including UO Students for Choice, the Associated Students of the University of Oregon and the university’s chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America.

Karlie Windle, president of UO Students for Choice, said the new service could help students avoid so-called “crisis pregnancy centers,” which critics say attempt to discourage abortions.

Windle added that offering medication abortions on campus may also reduce transportation barriers for students who do not have access to a car.

“Calling an Uber or taking public transportation to a clinic can create additional barriers during an already difficult and emotional situation,” she said.

With the change, the University of Oregon joins Portland State University, which already provides medication abortion services.

University officials said the medications will only be available to students, and not to university staff or other non-students.
