A 38-year-old woman in Coos Bay has been taken into custody after authorities discovered her in possession of a firearm despite being legally prohibited.
According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on March 19 at property owned by the Port of Coos Bay.
Felon Found Shooting on Restricted Property
Officials reported that Heather S. Dewalt was seen actively shooting when Deputy J. Anderson identified her. Law enforcement already knew she was barred from possessing firearms due to her criminal record.
Arrest and Charges
Dewalt was immediately arrested and is facing charges including:
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Probation violation
She was subsequently transported to the Coos County Jail.
Suspect Remains in Custody
Jail records confirm that Dewalt remained in custody as of March 20 while legal proceedings continue.
