A man from Myrtle Creek has been arrested after allegedly stealing a package from a residential porch in Roseburg—an incident captured on a home surveillance system.
Porch Theft Incident Captured on Camera
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the theft occurred on March 30 in the Green District neighborhood.
A homeowner in the 100-block of Othello Avenue reported that a package had been stolen. Recently installed security cameras recorded the suspect taking the item directly from the front porch.
Suspect Identified Through Video Evidence
Deputies reviewed the surveillance footage and gathered additional evidence, which helped them quickly identify the suspect as James Eli Ferch, 45.
Law enforcement tracked him to his residence in Myrtle Creek later the same day.
Arrest Made and Stolen Property Recovered
When deputies arrived at the suspect’s home, they recovered the stolen package.
Ferch was taken into custody and booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges including:
- Theft in the second degree
- Parole violation
The stolen item was successfully returned to the victim.
