A 38-year-old man from Medford has been arrested following a tense standoff and is now facing 18 serious child sex crime charges, authorities said.
Hours-Long Standoff Ends in Arrest
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Glenn Edward Rise barricaded himself inside a residence on South Pacific Highway on April 2. After several hours, law enforcement officers took him into custody without further incident.
The arrest was carried out with assistance from the Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team and other partner agencies.
Extensive Charges Filed
Rise faces a wide range of felony charges, including:
- First-degree rape
- First-degree sexual abuse
- First-degree unlawful sexual penetration (2 counts)
- Using a child in sexually explicit conduct (3 counts)
- Encouraging child sexual abuse (multiple counts)
Investigation Began Undercover
Investigators say the case started after Rise allegedly sent explicit material involving minors to undercover officers. Authorities later executed a search warrant at his residence.
During the search, law enforcement seized multiple digital devices.

A forensic analysis of the devices reportedly uncovered:
- Hundreds of images depicting child sexual abuse
- Evidence suggesting abuse involving a local minor
