Authorities in Portland have identified two of the three young people who died after a car plunged into the Willamette River earlier this week.

According to the Portland Police Bureau, the victims include 19-year-old Roberto C. Garcia-Chavez and 17-year-old Trent Badilla, both from Beavercreek. Investigators believe Garcia-Chavez was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Police said the group was traveling in a 1996 Toyota Corolla when the car drove through Tom McCall Waterfront Park and entered the river. The incident occurred Monday and resulted in the deaths of three individuals, ages 17, 19, and 20.

Search teams recovered two bodies from the water the same day. Officials have not yet released the identity of the third victim.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
