A Huntingtown woman is facing several felony charges after allegedly stealing and distributing huge amounts of prescription drugs from a Calvert County pharmacy over a two-year period.
Amanda Louise Phillips, 27, of Huntingtown, was arrested after an inquiry into missing medications at a CVS Pharmacy in Dunkirk.
According to the charging sheet, the case originates from incidences at the CVS on Ward Road in Dunkirk that occurred between January 1, 2024, and February 20, 2026. Investigators claim Phillips stole and had huge quantities of prohibited prescription medicines, including Clonazepam, Alprazolam, and Xanax, with the purpose of distributing them.
According to the report, over 1,200 clonazepam pills, about 890 alprazolam pills, and over 300 Xanax pills were consumed throughout the plan, for a total estimated value of more than $1,100.
According to the complaint, Phillips eventually acknowledged taking around 1,500 tablets from the drugstore over time, telling investigators she gave some of the medicines to another person while keeping others for personal use.
Authorities reported that pharmacy employees conducted an internal audit, which uncovered further missing goods, increasing the total worth of stolen pharmaceuticals to more than $1,200.
Investigators also examined surveillance footage and discovered numerous instances in which Phillips reportedly withdrew medications while working, adding to the ongoing theft operation.
Phillips faces charges for a theft conspiracy involving property worth $100 to $1,500, as well as multiple counts of possession with intent to distribute controlled hazardous substances, distribution of controlled substances, and possession of controlled substances.
She was released on an unsecured personal bond of $10,000 following her arrest.
Possession with intent to distribute and distribution of prohibited hazardous narcotics are punishable by up to 20 years in prison in Maryland, while theft scheme offenses can result in additional jail time and fines.
