Two people were sentenced in Florida for stealing from and exploiting a homeowners’ association.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle was recently joined by Senator Ileana Garcia, Representative Juan Carlos Porras, Commissioner Roberto Gonzalez, and members of the SAO HOA/COA Task Force to discuss the sentencing of Marglli Gallego and her husband, Jose Antonio Gonzalez, for their roles in the theft and exploitation of the Hammocks Homeowners Association in South Florida.

Marglli Gallego was sentenced to seven years in state prison and seven years on probation after pleading guilty to grand theft and racketeering. Jose Antonio Gonzalez pleaded guilty to money laundering and will serve seven years on probation.

As part of their sentence agreement, the offenders handed over a homestead property worth around $1.2 million to the Hammocks HOA and a $50,000 check to the organization.

During the news conference, State Attorney Fernandez Rundle emphasized the significance of transparency and trust among community associations, stating that citizens need responsible leadership and financial integrity in their communities.

The State Attorney’s Office also thanked Chief of Investigations Emiliano Tamayo, Division Chief of Economic Crimes Anthony Gil, and Assistant Chief of Litigation Mary Ernst for their exceptional efforts and dedication throughout this investigation.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office stated it is still committed to safeguarding homeowners, restoring confidence, and guaranteeing responsibility at all levels.
