A Chicago police officer who was seriously wounded in a shooting at Endeavor Swedish Hospital has been transferred to a rehabilitation center.

Officer Nelson Crespo was transferred from the hospital on Thursday after being treated for injuries sustained in the April 25 shooting that killed his partner, Officer John Bartholomew.

Crespo, 57, was shot in the chin during the incident at Swedish Hospital, which occurred when police were seeking treatment for a suspect in an armed robbery earlier that day.

That defendant, Alphanso Talley, reportedly snuck a gun into the hospital, and when being uncuffed from his hospital bed to receive treatment, he pulled out the handgun and shot Bartholomew in the head and Crespo in the jaw, according to prosecutors.

He then attempted to exit the hospital on foot, but was apprehended shortly afterward.

The bullet had stuck in Crespo’s neck, and he was in severe condition at the time. His fellow policemen celebrated his transfer to a rehab facility on Thursday, as they gathered outside.

Chicago Ald. Gilbert Villegas visited the hospital on Thursday and spoke with NBC Chicago’s Christian Farr.

‘We need to ensure that he is not interrupted while going through his crises. “I wanted to support the GoFundMe page so that his family can focus on Officer Crespo instead of worrying about things like mortgages and car payments,” he explained.
