Police in Lady Lake are hunting for a gunman following an ambush-style shooting in broad daylight on Tuesday, which detectives say could have endangered bystanders.
“There are many people in the area who could have been hurt,” stated Detective Ronnie Williams of the Lady Lake Police Department.
According to police, the incident occurred in the parking lot of an Affordable Lock facility. Surveillance video shows a man exiting a maroon SUV, running out of view, and allegedly firing seven rounds into a neighboring silver car.
The man is then seen getting back into the maroon SUV, which drives away.
According to police, the incident occurred at a busy moment, with many people nearby.
“There’s a restaurant across the street with an outside patio that had at least 15 people eating lunch,” Williams stated.
Investigators claimed they were informed by a tip from a local business, but when officers arrived, both vehicles had already fled the site. Police also report that no casualties have been identified.
“No one reported that someone fired upon them,” Williams said.
When asked what an occurrence like this could mean, Williams said it could be anything from a traffic argument to something more targeted.
“It could be a road rage incident, it could be people that have prior history… it could be a random thing,” he replied.
Lady Lake police have posted photographs of the two automobiles involved, and anyone who recognizes them or has information should call the Lady Lake Police Department. Police further advise the public to use cautious if they encounter either vehicle.
