A man who admitted to shooting his daughter in 2025 was sentenced in Hamilton County Court on Wednesday after accepting a plea agreement.

Franklin Thompson, 65, pled guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter involving a handgun.

The plea deal includes a 14- to 19.5-year sentence with two to five years of post-release supervision.

According to prior FOX19 NOW coverage, Franklin admitted to shooting his daughter, 24-year-old Heather Thompson, after an argument in their Sycamore Township home.

The incident occurred on January 27 at 12:45 a.m., according to deputies. Sycamore Township Fire and EMS were rushed to the Thompsons’ home after a woman contacted 911 to report her sister’s shooting.

According to Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kyla Woods, the caller discovered the victim in the front room and immediately began administering CPR.

The victim, Heather, was taken to Bethesda North Hospital, where she died.

Moments later, deputies discovered the guy roaming about the area with a handgun. They apprehended and accused him with murder.

Heather cared for her father, according to a family acquaintance.

“No one expected anything like this to happen, but her dad was clearly troubled,” Jazmin Bernal had stated.
