One person was killed and another injured in a nighttime shooting at a candlelight vigil in Watts for a mother of four who was reportedly killed by her boyfriend, authorities said.

According to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson, the incident took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday near East 104th Street and Wilmington Avenue. Officers arrived to discover a big gathering on the site.

According to the LAPD, one person was pronounced deceased at the scene, while another injured person was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Police said no one was in custody in connection with the incident. The suspect’s description was not available.

The vigil was arranged to memorialize Albertshay Russell, 32.

Russell’s boyfriend shot her on Santa Ana Street on Monday, according to family members. They stated that the couple lived at home with the boyfriend’s mother.

The mother presumably contacted 911 to describe Russell’s death as a suicide, but Russell’s family claims she had wounds on her hands, indicating she did not kill herself. The LAPD later verified that a homicide investigation is ongoing.

Russell is survived by her four children. Her relatives informed Eyewitness News that at least one of the youngsters witnessed Monday’s incident.

Russell’s memory was commemorated on a GoFundMe page.

Russell “was a beautiful person inside and out and captured everyone’s heart with her vibrant energy,” her sister, Antoinette Byrd, wrote in a statement posted to the fundraising website. “In your saddest moments, she could lift your spirit with just a simple smile, laugh, or dance.”

Police have not indicated whether the two shootings are connected.
