A 23-year-old man received several prison sentences for a deadly shooting at a Northeast El Paso Park, according to a news release from District Attorney James Montoya.

Robert Privett pled guilty Thursday to three counts stemming from a 2025 shooting in Nations Tobin Park: murder, aggravated assault resulting in paralysis, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He was sentenced to 47 years for murder, 47 years for assault resulting in paralysis, and 20 years for aggravated assault. His sentences will run concurrently, according to the announcement.

Jose Gonzalez, 34, died in the incident, while Ethan Ramos, 22, was paralyzed, and Jacob Gonzalez, 22, was injured.

According to investigators, the victims went to the park to collect the money Privett owed them. Privett fired a gun at them as they arrived in a vehicle. He fired more than a dozen shots before fleeing, authorities claimed.

Gonzalez, who drove the car, accelerated and collided with a tree.

According to court documents, Privett has previously been charged with aggravated assault on a public officer, burglary of residence, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Rebeca Tarango, the First Assistant District Attorney, prosecuted the case.
