Two Pennsylvania men were sentenced in federal court to life in prison for a deadly bombing, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.
Clint Addleman, 49, and Kris Nevling, 49, of Clearfield, were convicted of conspiracy to maliciously destroy property by explosive or fire, as well as possessing an unregistered destructive device.
A jury also found Addleman guilty of malicious destruction of property by explosion or fire resulting in death, as well as conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
According to prosecutors, Addleman and Nevling made a bomb and placed it in a package addressed to Shanna “Shawna” Carlson, 34.
On October 4, 2019, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the parcel was left outside Carlson’s Clearfield apartment door. It eventually burst, killing her and igniting a fire that devastated the structure.
According to the DOJ, evidence showed that Carlson owed Addleman approximately $1,000 in drug debt.
“Clint Addleman and Kris Nevling callously took the life of Shanna Carlson — someone who Nevling later testified in court was among his best friends — in one of the most violent and brutal manners imaginable, all over a small drug debt,” U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti stated. “They were found guilty of their crimes by two different juries. (The) sentences ensure that Addleman and Nevling will serve the rest of their lives in prison for their ruthless, violent behavior. Our office is committed to working closely with our law enforcement partners at the local, state, and federal levels to prosecute those who attempt to conduct such horrible crimes in our communities.”
“Kris Nevling and Clint Addleman are brutal murderers,” stated Eric DeGree, special agent in charge of the ATF’s Philadelphia Field Division. “They staged a deadly explosion to conceal their crime. We discovered their plot by working systematically with our federal, state, and local colleagues and using ATF’s sophisticated forensic techniques, and they now face lengthy federal prison sentences for their crimes.”
The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Clearfield Regional Police Department, and Pennsylvania State Police all participated in the investigation.
