Dozens of kids and teenagers have been charged in connection with a brawl at Hersheypark on its opening day, months after the incident.

The Derry Township Police Department reported on Monday that 55 children and young people aged 12 to 19 are facing charges ranging from simple assault to conspiracy, theft, failure to disperse, disorderly conduct, aggravated assault, and riot. Two of those charged are 18 years old, while one is 19.

Derry Township police said officers were dispatched to assist security staff at Hersheypark around 7 p.m. on April 3. Security reported conflicts between groups of several youths within the park, and police stated a rapid response helped break up the situation. Police say three people were initially arrested and several others were expelled.

Police reported “only minor interruptions” to park operations and no injuries to participants or bystanders.”This investigation demonstrates the Derry Township Police Department’s dedication to the safety and well-being of our residents, workers, and visitors,” police said in a press release. “Our Department, including our Criminal Investigation Section, takes these types of public safety issues seriously, investing significant time into cases like this one to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”

Following the fight, Hersheypark increased its security procedures. Guests who leave will now have to go through a picture verification process if they wish to return, according to CBS Philadelphia. Previously, the park used a hand stamp system to manage re-entry.
