A woman taken into custody following an hours-long standoff at a Motel 6 in Mesa.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Country Club and Hampton Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. on reports of a person armed with a knife threatening customers and employees at a Motel 6.
Police said the individual, later identified as a woman, attempted to contact her in her hotel room.
She refused to come out and participate in the investigation, so the police closed their first investigation.
Around 5:30 a.m., they were summoned back to the hotel because the same woman threatened another person with a knife.
Officers attempted to call the woman in her room and issue directions for her to leave, but she refused.
Additional resources were brought in, compelling the woman to exit the room. Less lethal force was utilised, and she was arrested.
While being examined by medical professionals, she allegedly kicked a Mesa firefighter in the upper torso.
Audrey Gabriel, 53, was brought to the hospital before being charged with many charges.
The allegations are aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a first responder, and three counts of disorderly conduct.
No first responders or members of the public were seriously injured during the incident.
