A Wilmington man has been taken into custody in Pennsylvania after Delaware State Police reported that he shot a woman Saturday evening.
The shooting happened on July 4, 2026, around 6:45 p.m. on the 2100 block of Marsh Road near the Papa Johns parking lot. According to investigations, troopers responded to allegations of a shooting and discovered a 35-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the face. With critical injuries, emergency care personnel transferred the victim to a nearby hospital.
Detectives concluded that 39-year-old Paul Waller of Wilmington shot the victim after a verbal exchange before departing the scene.
According to First State Update, after the incident, officials from numerous law enforcement organizations were actively seeking for Waller. At one point, Wilmington Police officers noticed him, but he managed to run before being apprehended.
As the hunt proceeded, SWAT cops and a drone operator prepared to fly a drone to help locate Waller. However, strong thunderstorms passed through the area, slowing the aircraft search.
The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit acquired an arrest warrant charging Waller with attempted first-degree murder and possessing a firearm while committing a felony.
On July 5, 2026, Waller was arrested in Pennsylvania. Officials did not say what time he was arrested or who took him into custody. Waller’s status has not been disclosed in Pennsylvania’s public facing court records. He will be transferred to Delaware to face charges.
The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit is still investigating the shooting.
