A suburban daycare teacher was taken into custody and charged with aggravated violence to a child after officials claimed she struck a child in the stomach several times.
According to a press release, the alleged incident occurred on July 2 at Kiddie Academy Day Care of Park Ridge, which is situated at 109 S. Washington Ave.
Police in Park Ridge said they got allegations from the daycare director and the victim’s parent that a youngster had been struck in the stomach earlier that day. According to authorities, surveillance video from the facility captured the event, which showed the staffer repeatedly stabbing the youngster in the stomach while they were lying on the floor.
Olivia Cepeda, 29, a daycare employee from Glenview, was arrested as part of the investigation, officials said. Cepeda faces a felony charge of aggravated violence to a kid under the age of 13, and her court appearance is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
According to police, the Kiddie Academy staff actively cooperated with the department.
Kiddie Academy of Park Ridge stated to NBC Chicago that “the safety and well-being of children in our care remains our highest priority.”After learning of the occurrence, the Academy’s leadership team took quick action, including firing the employee involved and contacting the child’s family and the proper authorities, according to the statement. “We are cooperating fully with their review and investigation.”
According to the statement, the event is still being investigated, and the center is committed to providing a “safe, nurturing environment for every child entrusted to our care.”
