A Lakeland man with an extensive criminal record was arrested Wednesday evening after deputies say he attempted to convince them he was inside his home during a curfew check when he was actually several streets away.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, on July 15, 2026, deputies received an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip about ‘illegal activities’ at a residence on Waldrup Road in Lakeland. Samuel Christopher Rorah, 33, owns the residence.

Rorah, who is now on felony probation for fentanyl possession, is under a court-ordered curfew.

When deputies arrived at the Waldrup Road home to check the tip, they discovered Rorah was not present. Deputies called Rorah and informed him that they were standing outside his house and wanted to see him.

According to sheriff’s officials, Rorah pretended to be inside the home and promised the deputies he’d be right out.

While waiting, deputies noticed a Kia vehicle stop in the distance. A man exited the vehicle, and it drove away. Deputies identified the individual as Rorah and arrested him for violating his probation.

According to sheriff’s office records, Rorah has a history of Polk County offenses, including burglary, grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft, battery, aggravated assault, simple assault, and disorderly conduct. According to records, he has been sentenced to Florida State Prison three times for a total of eight years, with the most recent release in January 2024.
