The Pennsylvania man accused of stabbing a Conneaut Lake police officer will serve at least 15 years in prison for the stabbing and two other charges.
According to the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office, 43-year-old Adam Mitchell of Jamestown, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 15 to 40 years in prison on Monday for stabbing Conneaut Lake Area Officer Landon Caldwell in December 2025, as well as assaulting other officers after the stabbing and failing to update his address and photograph as a sex offender.
Mitchell was charged with each incident in separate cases, but according to ADA Jacqueline Blanchard, all three were sentenced together as part of a plea deal reached in June, and Monday’s sentencing determined Mitchell’s maximum sentence.
As part of the settlement, Mitchell pleaded no contest to attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, earning 15-40 years in jail, as well as three counts of aggravated assault for the ER assault, each carrying 36-120 months in prison. He also pleaded guilty to failing to verify his address as a sex offender, which carries a sentence of 5-20 years in prison.
Blanchard stated that all of the sentences will run consecutively. According to court filings, prosecutors agreed not to prosecute five other felony offenses and one misdemeanor.
According to police, Caldwell was attending to a domestic argument at a laundromat in the 300 block of West Erie Street in Conneaut Lake on December 4, 2025, when Mitchell aggressively approached him and reportedly struck and tackled him.
This resulted in a scuffle in which Mitchell drew a knife and stabbed Caldwell, causing serious injuries, before being detained by Caldwell until additional assistance came.
Mitchell and Officer Caldwell were rushed to Meadville Medical Center for treatment, where he assaulted more officers and emergency room personnel, with Caldwell eventually moved to UPMC Hamot.
Mitchell had only been released on bond three days prior to the stabbing for failing to verify his address and be photographed as a registered sex offender after pleading guilty to two rape charges in March 2001.
Caldwell would be discharged from the hospital four days later.
