A Summerfield woman was taken into custody for stealing from Walmart during a retail theft blitz.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office participated in a National Retail Blitz operation this week, according to an arrest report from the MCSO. During this operation, police determined that Kathleen Rae Smith, 59, had stolen from Walmart, situated at 17961 S U.S. Hwy. 441, Summerfield on Wednesday.
Surveillance footage revealed that she passed all points of sale with $8.90 in stolen products. Smith later admitted that she did not think when she removed a bag of ice from the store after walking away from the register, according to the report.
A later search of her person revealed a clear bottle of methamphetamine. According to the report, a review of her criminal history revealed one prior theft conviction from March 27, 2017, in Sumter County.
Smith was arrested for petit theft and possession of methamphetamine. She was booked into the Marion County Jail and bond was set at $3,500.
She was also detained in September 2022 for carrying meth in her purse, as well as in July 2017 for having drug equipment in her vehicle.
