The body of a New York grandmother who went missing while visiting Las Vegas earlier this month has been discovered, her sister told CBS News New York. Police later verified that Alisa Goods, 63, was discovered dead in a drainage ditch near Harry Reid International Airport.
Goods went missing on August 8 as she left a friend’s apartment to catch a bus to CVS. She did not return and was reported missing on August 10. Two days later, her family started getting texts from her phone requesting bitcoin, assistance, and gas money.
Goods’ sister informed CBS News New York on Friday that Goods’ body had been discovered and that the family would be heading to Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release later Friday that police were summoned to a report of a deceased woman discovered in a drainage ditch area near the airport on Thursday morning, just before 2 a.m. local time.
They came and discovered the woman, who was later identified as Alisa Goods, police said.
According to authorities, surveillance video from the area’s airport on August 8 shows goods going down an embankment, then getting back up and crumbling. “There was no further movement observed after that,” police stated. “Her location could not be seen from the street.”
There was no information about the cause of death. CBS News has reached out to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Her family earlier stated that Goods had visited Las Vegas and that she frequently took the bus to her excursions. Goods’ daughter, Kristen Goods, told CBS News that her mother’s surgeries made walking more difficult on this trip. Kristen Goods stated, “From what I understand, the temperatures there are extremely hot, so she is unable to walk.”
Goods’ niece, Alana Calloway, previously told CBS News that the request for petrol money raised concerns because her aunt does not drive. She stated that this is when they pondered the idea that she had been kidnaped.
Following her disappearance, her family claimed they contacted nearby hospitals, jails, and the coroner’s office but found no leads. Kristen Goods told CBS News earlier this week that she flew to Las Vegas to find answers. I’m praying to God for the best, but my heart can’t take what could be the worst,” Kristen Goods stated.
The family stated on a GoFundMe campaign on Friday that Goods was “deeply loved.” Her absence creates a void in our family that cannot be replaced. “We are doing our best to navigate this loss together while also celebrating the life she lived, the people she loved, and the memories she left us,” the statement added.
