Two people were taken into custody after an attempted cover-up of an accidental shooting in Central Florida, according to local law enforcement.
Detectives from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office recently responded to Bartow Regional Medical Center after being told of a woman being treated for a gunshot wound.
Madison Thomas, 21, of Bartow, suffered a gunshot wound to her right toe. According to local law authorities, Thomas frequently supplied inaccurate information about the incident, including how and where it occurred.
She also attempted to change the information on her cell phone, and when the detective tried to seize the phone as evidence, Thomas grabbed his wrist, according to PCSO.
Eventually, detectives went to Thomas’ home on 80-Foot Road in Bartow. The police met and spoke with Thomas’ 22-year-old fiancé, Cazar Caraker.
According to police authorities, he, too, misled others with his information. Caraker was discovered to be a convicted criminal on probation for lewd and lascivious battery on a victim aged 13 or younger. As a result, he is not permitted to spend time with his two youngest children.
cops found that the children were present at the time of the shooting, and he attempted to hide them at a neighbor’s property before the cops arrived.
Eventually, it was discovered that Thomas had inadvertently shot her own toe, and Cazar instructed her to lie to law enforcement because he is not permitted to keep a pistol on their property.
Thomas and Caraker were both arrested.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas was charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting with Violence, Resisting without Violence, and Giving False Information to Law Enforcement during a felony investigation. Caraker was charged with providing false information during a felony investigation, tampering with physical evidence, tampering with a witness, corruption by threat, violating probation, and possessing a firearm by a convicted felon.
Detectives informed the Florida Department of Children and Families of their investigation, and the children were placed with other family members at the time.
