A substitute teacher was arrested on Tuesday after bringing a loaded revolver to Westland Senior High School in Hialeah, authorities said.
According to an arrest complaint from the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department, a teacher discovered an unattended bookbag in the school’s auditorium, situated at 4000 W. 18th Ave., and searched it for identification. Instead, the teacher discovered a loaded 9 mm Walther handgun, according to the report.
According to police, the teacher immediately brought the backpack to the principal’s office, who then notified the school resource officer.
According to the complaint, the officer checked the rucksack and discovered a passport ID inside a wallet belonging to Chenelle Antonette Doctor, 27, from Hollywood.
According to police, Doctor is a Kelly Services substitute teacher who was working on the high school campus on Tuesday.
According to officials, the doctor was eventually apprehended.
According to police, Doctor suddenly told the arresting officer that she had forgotten to take her revolver out of her backpack that morning.
According to the investigation, the gun had one cartridge in the chamber and a magazine containing seven live rounds. According to officials, the backpack also contained an empty magazine.
The doctor was arrested on charges of possessing a handgun on school campus.
Doctor was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Wednesday morning on a $2,500 bond.
