Florida High School Student Taken Into Custody After Arriving In Tactical Gear

A Clay High School student now faces criminal charges and school disciplinary action after arriving on campus dressed in full tactical gear before abruptly departing, according to authorities.

On October 30, 2026, the student appeared at the school wearing camouflage and commando-style clothing, including a tactical vest with pouches, a ballistic helmet, and a radio. A school employee noticed the individual standing outside the building, but could not identify the person or confirm whether they were an enrolled student. Shortly after, the employee observed the individual turn around and leave school property without explanation.

The incident generated significant concern and disrupted normal school operations. In response, officials placed Clay High School under a temporary “SECURE” status while law enforcement conducted an investigation.

Deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office located the student off-campus shortly thereafter. Following an interview with investigators, authorities took the student into custody on a misdemeanor charge of disruption of a school function. District officials confirmed that the student also faces disciplinary measures under the Clay County District Schools Student Code of Conduct.

“The Clay County Sheriff’s Office takes all threats involving our schools extremely seriously and we appreciate the coordination with Clay County District Schools to ensure the safety of our students, faculty and staff,” the sheriff’s office stated. “Protecting our students and providing a safe, secure environment for learning will always be our top priority.”

Authorities have not publicly disclosed the student’s identity, as the individual is a minor. Officials have also not indicated what motivated the student to appear on campus wearing tactical gear.
