AZDPS trooper taken into custody for alleged sexual misconduct involving female after a hit-and-run

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office taken into custody an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper after allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female motorist on Monday.

The woman was involved in a hit-and-run collision on a Cochise County road on Sunday evening, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The woman called authorities after being stuck by the accident, which is when the alleged sexual misbehavior took place.

The Sheriff’s Office launched an inquiry after being notified of a welfare check for a woman who was stranded in her vehicle and appeared distraught. Authorities called her, and she claimed “inappropriate sexual conduct involving an AZDPS trooper” who had responded to her initial complaint.

Investigators began investigating the accusations and identifying the trooper who was involved. They called the trooper, 35-year-old Aiden Rosebeck, who admitted to having a physical interaction with the woman.

After discovering further information and evidence, authorities created grounds for criminal enforcement action, arresting and detaining Rosebeck in the Cochise County jail on accusations of unlawful sexual behavior involving a police officer, a Class 5 felony.

“Let me be absolutely clear, a badge is not a shield from accountability, and the authority to enforce the law does not place anyone above it,” Sheriff Mark Dannel said in a statement. “When someone is stranded on the side of a roadway, they should be able to trust that a law enforcement officer who stops to assist them is there to protect them, not take advantage of their circumstances. Any allegation that an officer has abused that position of authority is a serious matter, and one that demands immediate attention.

“There will be no double standard. There will be no special treatment. And there will be no looking the other way.”
