Police in Oregon are searching for a man accused of sexually abusing a minor after he reportedly escaped custody by jumping out of a window during an attempted arrest.
Authorities say Eric Daniel Marts, 47, fled from a residence near the 3000 block of Southwest 121st Avenue in Beaverton on Tuesday when deputies arrived to take him into custody. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Marts jumped through a window and ran from the scene.
Law enforcement quickly launched a search operation using a K-9 unit and a drone, but were unable to locate him.
Marts was previously arrested in October and charged with five counts of first-degree sexual abuse involving a girl under the age of 14. He had been released from jail in January after posting bail and was placed under electronic GPS monitoring.
On Tuesday morning, authorities were alerted that Marts had tampered with his monitoring device, prompting deputies to respond and attempt to arrest him.
Officials also revealed that Marts is wanted on an additional warrant out of Lincoln County related to another alleged sex crime, though court records for that case have not yet been filed.
As of now, Marts remains at large, and authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact law enforcement.
