A car crashed into a fire hydrant in Moreno Valley early Sunday morning, leaving four people hospitalized.
Crews from the Riverside County Fire Department responded to the intersection of Perris Boulevard and San Michele Road, near the Ross distribution center, around 5:40 a.m. after receiving reports of the crash.
“Upon arrival, the Incident Commander reported a two-vehicle collision, with one vehicle into a fire hydrant,” Cal Fire’s release said.
All four people inside the vehicles were taken to the hospital, firefighters said, with three suffering major injuries and the fourth sustaining moderate injuries.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Office investigators said one person was pronounced dead at the scene. They identified her as 37-year-old Diana Diaz of Perris, one of the drivers involved in the crash.
Sheriff’s investigators are now working with firefighters to determine the cause of the crash. No arrests have been made so far.
“It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision,” deputies said. “The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and no further details will be released at this time.”
The collision shut down southbound Perris Boulevard and San Michele Road for several hours.
Deputies are asking anyone with information to call 951-486-6700.
