A Philadelphia truck driver on a mandatory break at a Florida gas station was handcuffed Wednesday after a workplace disturbance report revealed he was wanted for robbery back home.

The incident occurred on May 27th, when Deputy Sheriff Wong responded to a reported disturbance at the RaceTrac convenience store, 45119 US 27 in Davenport, FL. According to local authorities, a store employee contacted 911 to report a man inside the business who was actively confronting employees and generating a scene.

Upon arrival at the gas station, Deputy Wong recognised the suspect as 33-year-old Hakeem Jamal Copeland of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Copeland informed the responding officer that he was a commercial truck driver and was using the stop to take a legally required rest break.

However, a regular background check on Copeland’s identity rapidly altered the course of the call. Deputy Wong determined that Copeland had an active, outstanding warrant for robbery in Philadelphia.

Deputies arrested Copeland without incident based on the out-of-state warrant. He was taken to the local jail, where he is being held as a fugitive from justice pending extradition proceedings to send him to Pennsylvania.
