A 23-year-old man was sentenced to prison last month after being found guilty of committing robberies against Asian-owned businesses.
Jose Manuel Escobar De Loera was convicted of two counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree robbery, and two counts of first- and second-degree theft on May 7, according to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office. He was sentenced to 135 months in prison.
According to the district attorney’s office, Escobar De Loera was a member of a ring that perpetrated armed robberies targeting Asian-owned massage businesses in Tigard and Tualatin.
Escobar De Loera would approach a business by appearing as a customer, and his accomplices would enter with masks and firearms, threatening staff. The suspects would then steal money and smartphones.
During a robbery on December 16, 2025, a car flagged down by employees was able to catch Escobar de Loera. According to the district attorney’s office, Escobar De Loera was spotted carrying the business’s security box and disposing of stolen cash and phones in a creek.
Phone data, security footage, and victim testimony all helped to identify Escobar De Loera as one of the suspects.
