Truck Found Overturned After Late-Night Crash
A 60-year-old man was arrested a day after deputies discovered a serious crash scene in Coquille, according to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded around 11:38 p.m. on April 10 after receiving reports of a damaged utility pole and downed power lines on Fairview Road near milepost 5.
Extensive Damage Discovered at Scene
When deputies and emergency crews arrived, they found significant destruction, including:
- A utility line hanging dangerously across the roadway
- Multiple road signs destroyed
- A heavily damaged guardrail
- A red 2025 Chevy Silverado flipped upside down down an embankment
The vehicle had fallen approximately 60 feet off the road. No driver was found at the scene.
Driver Identified but Missing Initially
Officials identified the truck as belonging to Craig Gurney. Deputies immediately began searching the surrounding area and attempted to locate him by contacting friends and family, but were unsuccessful that night.
Suspect Located and Arrested Next Day
The following afternoon, around 3:17 p.m. on April 11, deputies located Gurney in the Middle Creek area.
After further investigation, he was arrested and charged with:
- Failure to perform the duties of a driver
- Criminal mischief
Gurney was taken to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and later released.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
