Former Nebraska Coach Admits Sexual Relationship With Player in Lawsuit

On This Post

Former Nebraska women’s basketball assistant coach Chuck Love has admitted to having a sexual relationship with a former player, Ashley Scoggin, according to recent court filings tied to a civil lawsuit.

Scoggin filed the lawsuit in 2024, alleging her civil rights were violated in the events leading up to her dismissal from the team in 2022. She is seeking a jury trial and unspecified damages.

In earlier responses, Love denied any sexual involvement with Scoggin. However, court documents reveal that during a deposition on Feb. 5, 2026, he acknowledged the relationship for the first time. The admission was highlighted in a March 17 filing by Scoggin’s attorney, Maren Chaloupka.

The lawsuit also names the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, head coach Amy Williams and former athletic director Trev Alberts as co-defendants. Scoggin’s legal team claims they supported Love’s earlier denial and failed to implement clear policies prohibiting relationships between staff and players.

According to the complaint, Love showed special attention toward Scoggin, and the relationship became sexual. Scoggin alleges she feared retaliation if she resisted. She also claims the university failed to provide proper safeguards or training to prevent such conduct.

Scoggin was dismissed from the team in February 2022 — the same day Love was suspended with pay. He resigned three months later. The situation came to light after teammates reportedly found Scoggin, fully clothed, in Love’s hotel room during a road trip.

The university has previously stated that Scoggin’s dismissal was justified, citing issues of “dishonesty and distrust” within the team.

The case remains ongoing.
