Authorities in Oregon are investigating the deaths of three people believed to have been caused by fentanyl exposure in a rural area of Yamhill County.
Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting multiple overdoses just northwest of Newberg around 4:30 p.m. on April 20, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office. When emergency crews arrived, three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials identified the victims as 28-year-old Timothy Dean Crisman of McMinnville, 35-year-old Roberto Refugio Hernandez of Newberg, and 56-year-old Virginia Ann Rarick of Newberg.
Investigators said the group had been using drugs that later tested positive for fentanyl — a powerful synthetic opioid known for its high potency and risk of fatal overdose.
Sheriff Sam Elliott warned that even extremely small amounts of fentanyl can be deadly, often without users realizing the substance is present in what they consume.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the source of the drugs and are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
