COLUMBIA — Late in the afternoon of June 14, the Richland County jail was holding a South Carolina football player on a long list of charges, including breaking into property and theft.
Sam Williams-Dixon, who appears as Sam Dixon on the Gamecocks’ online roster, was held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on seven charges.
The charges include three counts each of breaking into a vehicle or fuel tank and criminal conspiracy, plus one count of grand larceny (more than $2,000, less than $10,000).
Officers booked him at midnight on Saturday. A judge granted him a $150,000 bond, but jail records showed he remained in custody as of 6 p.m.
GamecockCentral.com first reported the arrest.
A school spokesperson confirmed that USC knows about the situation. Athletic department policy has placed Dixon on indefinite suspension from all team activities.
Dixon, who hails from Pickerington, Ohio, transferred from Ohio State and completed spring drills with the Gamecocks. As a running back, he posted 10 career carries for 62 yards across two seasons with the Buckeyes.
He was facing a crowded RB room at USC, one of seven backs vying to make an impact in USC’s offense.
