The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced that an 18-year-old was taken into custody following a double shooting on Indianapolis’ southwest side earlier this year.
According to prior reports, officers responded to a shooting incident in the 5800 block of Coppock Drive on March 19.
When authorities arrived, they discovered two individuals, ages 16 and 17, who had been shot. Both teens were sent to a nearby hospital in stable condition.
In an update, IMPD officials indicated that at the moment, aggravated assault detectives began searching the location of the incident for witnesses, evidence, and camera footage. Through this investigation, the suspect was identified as an 18-year-old.
On Thursday, detectives from IMPD’s violent crimes section, along with IMPD’s K9 team and US Marshals, apprehended the 18-year-old suspect in the 1100 block of North Arlington Avenue. The teen was detained on a warrant for violence with a deadly weapon and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury.
This is the second person arrested in relation to the double shooting. A Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested another 18-year-old suspect in the alleged August shooting.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision in this matter.
