Florida Teen Discovers Wearing No Mask While Casing A Crime Scene Defeats The Purpose Of A Clown Disguise

A Halloween disguise offers convenient cover for anyone wandering the streets in an unsettling mask, but the costume provides little protection when the would-be criminal has already introduced himself to the target location without one. An 18-year-old Miami man discovered this fundamental flaw in his planning after authorities say his holiday robbery collapsed almost as quickly as it began.

Adrian Rafael Castano was taken into custody after deputies allege he robbed a Palm Coast Amoco station while dressed as a clown , approximately 15 minutes after casually entering that same establishment with his face fully visible on surveillance cameras.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Castano’s scheme began falling apart around 6:06 p.m. at the station located near State Road 100 and Interstate 95. Store surveillance footage captured him entering the premises, engaging in relaxed conversation with the clerk, and departing without making a single purchase. He then positioned himself in the parking lot inside a silver Chevrolet Traverse, waiting deliberately for customers to vacate the store.

At 6:22 p.m., he returned in full theatrical fashion. Wearing a clown mask and concealing one hand inside a black bag, Castano moved behind the counter, directed the concealed bag toward the clerk, and delivered a demand that carried the unmistakable tone of a scripted movie villain: “Open the cash register, and don’t be a hero.”
