A 68-year-old retired New York City police sergeant faces criminal charges after posting an online death threat against Pinellas County Commissioner Brian Scott. The threat stemmed from Scott’s vote approving a mosque expansion in Pinellas County, according to authorities.
Rodolfo Mienert was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and charged with one felony count of written threats to kill. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Threat Management Unit conducted the investigation leading to his arrest.
Detectives launched the investigation on November 2 after receiving a tip regarding a threatening comment posted on a local news outlet’s Facebook page. The original post, published on November 1, expressed criticism toward Commissioner Scott for his vote in favor of the mosque expansion.
According to investigators, a commenter responded to the post with the following statement: “But Scott’s WAS, and he’s a Republican’ turncoat,…off with his head!”
