Richard’s Run For Life Comes Back To Ybor City Friday, Bringing Road Closures

Richard’s Run for Life will return to Ybor City on Friday evening, bringing hundreds of participants to Centennial Park in support of young people currently undergoing cancer treatment. The event will generate rolling traffic closures across several streets throughout the night.

The annual fundraiser directs proceeds toward specialized cancer care and medical services for adolescents and young adults. Activities begin at 6 p.m. at Centennial Park, followed by a 5K race at 7 p.m., a one-block walk, and a post-race celebration held within the park.

The 5K course originates and concludes at Centennial Park. Runners will travel along Palm Avenue to Nuccio Parkway before reversing direction onto Palm Avenue and returning to the park.

Drivers should anticipate significant traffic disruptions throughout the late afternoon and into the evening. Roads surrounding Centennial Park will close at approximately 3 p.m. and remain blocked until around 10:30 p.m. Streets along the race route will close beginning at 5 p.m. and are expected to reopen by 8 p.m.

City officials have noted that several additional major events taking place in downtown Tampa will further contribute to Friday evening congestion. The Port Tampa Bayslam begins at 8 a.m. at the Tampa Convention Center, the Straz Center hosts a 7:30 p.m. performance of “Hamilton,” and the Tampa Theatre presents an 8 p.m. show.

Residents and attendees are strongly encouraged to utilize alternative transportation options to avoid delays. Available options include the free TECO Line Streetcar, DASH rides, HART buses, and rental scooters or bicycles. All City of Tampa downtown parking garages offer complimentary covered bicycle parking.
