A native of Venezuela was apprehended for driving with a suspended license after being pulled over in The Villages.
Deputies stopped 48-year-old Karen Ortiz Hodge in a silver utility vehicle in the Village of Fenney around 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the vehicle’s tag revealed she did not have a legal license.
A check of her driving record revealed that she had received notice of a suspension on January 13, which went into effect on February 2. She was then requested to get out of her vehicle, and she began to wonder what was going on. When told she was arrested for driving with a suspended license, she claimed she had no idea it was suspended, according to the report.
The deputy also revealed that her license had been suspended owing to an unpaid traffic fine, which Hodge said she had paid. However, she had already instructed a deputy that she would not make the payments, which she later denied, according to the report.
Hodge was accused with driving while his license was suspended. The Venezuelan native was arrested at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting a $500 bond.
