A judge sentenced a man guilty in connection with a federal crackdown on dozens of members of a large Minneapolis gang to more than 11 years in prison.
Last year, a jury found Cortez Blakemore guilty of racketeer-influenced corrupt organization (RICO) conspiracy and conspiracy to distribute controlled narcotics.
Blakemore was sentenced to 135 months in prison, followed by five years on supervised release, according to court documents.
According to court filings, Blakemore was a prominent drug trafficker for the Highs street gang, trafficking fentanyl at the Broadway and Lyndale crossroads in north Minneapolis.
Prosecutors claim the Highs have “long wreaked havoc” on Minneapolis’ North Side, distributing dangerous drugs and “enforcing their territory” through violence, kidnapping, and murder, including the murders of innocent citizens.
