A Florida contractor has discovered that accepting nearly $37,000 from a homeowner while delivering nothing in return carries serious legal consequences. Steven Rounds, 40, was arrested on October 27 after St. Johns County deputies investigated his handling of a residential remodeling project. He now faces felony charges of grand theft and misappropriation of construction funds.
The situation began in April when a local homeowner hired Rounds to complete renovations on their property. Over the following months, the homeowner submitted multiple payments totaling $36,875. Rather than completing the agreed-upon work, Rounds subjected the client to prolonged delays, left subcontractors unpaid, ceased all communication, and ultimately abandoned the project , leaving the property in a state of partial demolition.
St. Johns County property crimes detectives determined that Rounds knowingly accepted the homeowner’s funds under false pretenses, with no genuine intention of applying the money toward materials, labor, or the completion of the contracted work.
Rounds was eventually located in Jacksonville, where deputies took him into custody and placed him under arrest. His business, Incredible Kitchen and Bath, served as the vehicle through which the transactions were conducted.
Investigators believe this incident may not be an isolated occurrence. Any individual who made payments to Rounds or to Incredible Kitchen and Bath for renovation work that was never completed is encouraged to contact Detective Maloney directly at [email protected].
