A Minneapolis man has been sentenced for his involvement in a violent carjacking in August 2024.
Sentencing in Minneapolis carjacking
According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), Havion Eddie Amaru Holmes, 24, was sentenced to 90 months in prison, or seven and a half years, for aiding and abetting carjacking.
The DOJ claims that on August 24, 2024, Holmes and another man approached a couple in a car with firearms. The victims were then hauled out of the car and each shot with a weapon, the man in the nose and head and the woman in the back and neck.
Holmes and the other man seized the car and fled the area.
According to court filings, officers discovered the stolen SUV minutes later and attempted to stop them, but Holmes and the other man escaped, resulting in a high-speed chase.
The men then smashed their automobile and escaped on foot. Holmes was ultimately caught.
The DOJ did not identify the other man involved. It is unclear whether he has been charged.
