The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California reported 122 border-related cases this week, with the following seizure ranking among the most significant. According to the Department of Justice, Manuel Salvador Hernández Pérez, a border crossing card holder, was apprehended on June 18 while attempting to enter the United States at the San Ysidro port of entry.
During a routine check of his Ford F-150 pickup vehicle, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials discovered 83 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in the hood, spare tire, and rear door. Hernández was promptly detained and handed over to federal prosecutors.
The Southern District of California, which includes the world’s busiest port of entry, San Ysidro, ranks fourth nationally in terms of law enforcement activity, owing in large part to the enormous level of cross-border crime, officials said.
