Bethel School District students to receive free Eugene library cards

On This Post

Thousands of students in Eugene will receive free library cards this month through an expanded program by the Eugene Public Library.

The initiative now includes all K-12 students in the Bethel School District, giving more than 4,800 students access to library services. With the student cards, children can use digital resources such as e-books, audiobooks and streaming services, and borrow up to five physical items at a time.

Library Director Angela Ocaña said a public library card can play a major role in a student’s educational success by providing both learning opportunities and recreational reading.

Bethel School District Superintendent Kraig Sproles also welcomed the program, saying access to books helps create joyful learning communities and supports student development.

The program is supported by an annual $2,000 contribution from the school district. Students are automatically enrolled, meaning families do not need to visit the library to sign up. Cards will also renew automatically each school year for students who remain in the district.
