Corvallis Man Gets 19-Month Sentence, Lifetime License Ban After Fourth DUI Conviction

On This Post

A Corvallis man has been sentenced to prison and permanently stripped of his driving privileges following his fourth felony DUI conviction within a decade, according to local prosecutors.

Repeat DUI Offender Sentenced in Benton County

Micky Michael received a 19-month prison sentence after being convicted of driving under the influence for the fourth time in 10 years. The case was handled by the Benton County District Attorney’s Office.

In addition to prison time, the court ordered Michael to pay a $2,000 fine, placed him under two years of post-prison supervision, and revoked his Oregon driver’s license for life.

Dangerous Driving Incident Led to Arrest

The arrest took place on the morning of October 16, 2024, when an officer from the Corvallis Police Department stopped Michael after reports of erratic driving.

A sergeant from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office observed the vehicle swerving repeatedly. Authorities said Michael crossed out of his lane multiple times, nearly struck a guardrail, and at one point veered into oncoming traffic before correcting course to avoid a collision.

Officials noted that his driving behavior posed a serious risk to other motorists on the road.

Sobriety Tests and Toxicology Results

After being pulled over, Michael failed field sobriety tests and showed clear signs of impairment. A subsequent blood test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.038%, along with the presence of THC, the psychoactive component found in cannabis.

While the alcohol level was below the typical legal limit, authorities emphasized that impairment can still occur, especially when combined with other substances.

Prosecutors Emphasize Public Safety Risks

Deputy District Attorney John Vehrs had requested a longer 24-month sentence, but the judge ultimately imposed a slightly reduced term.

Benton County District Attorney Ryan Joslin highlighted the dangers of impaired driving, stating that individuals who drive under the influence put countless lives at risk.

Officials credited the quick response of law enforcement with potentially preventing a serious or fatal crash.

Zero Tolerance for Repeat Offenders

The case underscores Oregon’s strict stance on repeat DUI offenses, particularly when drivers repeatedly endanger public safety.

Authorities continue to urge drivers to avoid operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drugs, warning that the consequences can be severe—and sometimes irreversible.
