A building that helped shape Oregon’s craft beer legacy will soon welcome a new brewery.
Eugene-based Claim 52 Brewing announced plans to open a brewpub at 748 SW Bay Blvd. in Newport — the same location where Rogue Ales established its presence when it relocated to the coastal city in 1989.
The Bay Boulevard property most recently housed Rogue Bayfront Public House until November, when Rogue abruptly closed all of its locations, shut down brewing and distilling operations, and later filed for bankruptcy..
Honoring Craft Beer History
Claim 52 manager Jeremy Zollman said the site holds deep meaning for Oregon beer enthusiasts.
“When I first began my journey as a craft beer fan, Rogue was my favorite brewery by far because what former Rogue brewmaster John Maier was doing truly embodied the spirit of craft beer,” Zollman said.
Owner Jeremiah Marsden said the company intends to preserve the building’s brewing heritage while establishing a stronger presence on the coast.
“Beyond the history of the building that we want to keep and maintain, and keep the craft brewing culture alive on the coast, it gives us a chance to establish ourselves there more,” Marsden said. “I think the people of the coast are pretty excited about the news.”
Expansion Beyond Eugene
Claim 52 expanded its brewing capacity in 2025 after moving into a larger facility on Lincoln Street in Eugene, creating opportunities for growth beyond Lane County.
Marsden said the Newport location will undergo minor renovations before opening. The brewery is already in discussions with potential staff, including former Rogue employees, and hopes to open the new brewpub in early May.
With the transition, one of Oregon’s most recognizable craft beer addresses will remain part of the state’s brewing tradition — albeit under new ownership.
